The radios have XTNi Series Lithium-Ion batteries (Li-Ion) that come in different capacities, which depends on the life of the battery. They also provide the option to use alkaline batteries. The radio is equipped with a quick reload clip.


About Lithium-Ion Battery

The radio XTNi Series comes with a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery. This battery is charged before first use to ensure capacity and performance.

The battery life depends on several factores.Algunos of the most important are regular overcharging the batteries and the average discharge rate in each cycle. In general, the greater the overload and the greater the average discharge, the lower the number of cycles the battery will last. For example, if the battery is overloaded and discharge to 100% several times a day, it will take less cycles if it is loaded to a lesser extent and is discharged to 50% every day. In addition, a battery which receives minimal overcharging and averages only 25% discharge, may last even longer.

Motorola batteries are designed specifically for use with a Motorola charger and vice versa. The load on non-Motorola equipment may damage the battery and void the warranty on your battery. Where possible, the battery should be at a temperature of about 77 ° F (25 º C) (room temperature). When charging a cool (below 50 degrees F [10 º C]) can lead to loss of electrolytes and finally battery failure. By uploading a hot (above 95 º F [35 º C]), reduces the discharge capacity, affecting the operation of the radio. Battery chargers contain a Motorola quick charge circuit temperature sensor that ensures that the batteries are charged within the temperature range mentioned above.

Battery recycling and disposal

The lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are recyclable. However, some areas may not have recycling centers. According to U.S. State Laws and many other countries, the batteries must be recycled and can not be disposed of in landfills or incinerators. Contact the local authority waste management for requirements and information specific to your area. Motorola fully endorses and promotes the recycling of Li-Ion batteries. U.S. and Canada, Motorola participates in the program of the Society of Rechargeable Battery Recycling (RBRC, for its acronym in English) for collection and recycling of Li-Ion batteries.

To change the factory setting mode charger to adapt to a high capacity battery:

1.Press carefully the two tabs on either side of the removable seat and remove charger stand up on the seat.

2.Rote removable seat 180 degrees and replace by inserting it into the notch on the charger until it clicks. " Removable seat label should be marked "High & Ultra Capacity Battery" to the front of the charger.

3.Repita this procedure to return to the position of standard battery recharge. Removable seat label should be marked "Standard Battery" to the front.

Note: Make sure the seat is correctly positioned so that it can properly charge the battery pack itself and the radio.

To turn on the radio, turn the knob on / off / volume in the direction of clockwise. The radio will emit a sharp sound and the LED will briefly flash red.

To turn off the radio, turn the knob on / off / volume in the opposite direction clockwise until you hear a click and the LED on the radio is turned off.


Turn the on / off / volume in the sense of clockwise to increase volume or counterclockwise to lower.

Note: Do not bring the radio to ear when at high volume or adjust the volume.


To select a channel, turn the channel selector knob and select the desired channel.

Program each channel separately. Each channel has its own frequency, phase-code interference and search settings.


It is important to conduct a traffic monitoring before transmitting to avoid "talking over" another person who is transmitting.

To monitor, hold the SB1 (*) for 2 or 3 seconds to enter the traffic lane. If there is no activity, you will hear the "static." To return, press SB1 again. Once you have checked the traffic channel, make your call by pressing the PTT button. When transmitting, the LED will blink red every 3 seconds.

(*) Assuming that SB1 has not been programmed for a different way.


1.Select a channel selection by turning the channel until it reaches the desired channel.

2.Ensure the PTT button is not pressed and listen for voice activity.

3.The LED flashes RED ago when the radio is receiving a call.

4.For respond, hold the radio upright at 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) of the mouth. Press the PTT to talk, release to listen.

XTNi radios are designed to maximize performance and improve transmission range in the field. You should not use radios closer than 1.5 meters to avoid interference.

The communication range depends on terrain. Be affected by concrete structures, heavy foliage and use radios indoors or


The optimum range is achieved in flat, open areas, with coverage up to 9 miles. The midrange is where there are buildings or trees in the middle. The minimum occurs when dense foliage and mountains that block the channel of communication.

To establish a good two-way communication channel, frequency and interference eliminator codes must be the same on both radios. This depends on the stored profile is programmed before the radio:

1.Canal: Current channel is using the radio, depending on the model of radio.

2.Frecuencia: the radio frequency used to transmit / receive.

Interference Eliminator 3.Código: These codes help minimize interference by providing a variety of combinations of codes.

4.Código encryption: Codes that make transmissions sound incomprehensible to those who listen and do not have that specific code.

Hands free accessories (iVOX)

Setting the VOX sensitivity

The sensitivity of the radio or microphone accessory can be adjusted while running the VOX to fit different contexts of operation. The sensitivity of VOX / iVOX can be programmed via the CPS.

The default is "off" (level 0). If you want to use the VOX, the VOX level should not be 0.

1 = Low sensitivity

2 = Medium sensitivity

3 = High Sensitivity

Microphone gain

You can adjust the microphone sensitivity of the radio so as to adapt to different users or contexts of operation.

This feature can be set only through the CPS. The default setting of the microphone is level 2 (average increase).

Battery Saver

The Battery Save feature extends the battery life as the radio goes into a state of "idle" if no account activity. To activate / deactivate, press the SB1 and SB2 at the same time for 2 or 3 seconds at a time connecting the radio until you hear a rapid series of beeps. For the time of attack is a little better, turn off the battery save feature so that the radio is always ready to transmit or receive without delay.

Note: The default setting for the battery save feature is "on."

Restore factory settings

To easily program all functions of your radio, you should use the CPS kit that includes sections on programming cable, CPS and accessories.

Programming Mode

Programming Mode is a special mode that allows radio program the basic functions of the radio using the programming panel.

When the radio is in programming mode, you can read and modify three functions:


Codes (CTCSS / DPL) and

Auto Search.

The frequency programming function allows you to select the frequencies for each channel.

The Interference Eliminator Code (CTCSS / DPL) helps to minimize interference by providing a variety of combinations of codes to filter out static, noise and unwanted messages.

Automatic search function lets you set a particular channel so that when you select that channel, automatically activate the search (not necessary to press any button to start the search).

Reading the values that indicates the radio

Because the model no viewfinder does not display values that are being programmed, the radio will communicate this information through beeps and LED signs. The radio LEDs will blink in two colors: orange to indicate "0" and red for other values of 1 to 9. The specific number that the radio will be showing will be differentiated by short and long red flashes.

Programming Mode Selection

Note: Before programming the functions, make sure your radio is on channel to be programmed. You can do this before selecting the programming mode or at any time after selecting it by turning the channel selector to the desired channel.

To read or modify frequencies, codes and auto search, put the radio in "Programming Mode" by holding down both the PTT and the SB1 at the same time while turning the radio for 3 or 5 seconds until you hear a sondio Acute indicating that you have selected the programming mode idle (*). Reading frequency values

By reading the values of frequencies, will read two digits, since XTNi% u2122 series radios have 16 (*) UHF frequencies (see the UHF frequency tables).

After selecting the programming mode idle, the radio will tell you when the first set value briefly press the PTT button (see image below). This corresponds to the first digit of the frequency. If you briefly press the PTT button again, the radio will indicate the second digit of value.

Reading search values automatically

Programming frequencies, codes and auto search

FAQs Programming Mode

1. I was distracted during digit programming and forgot what was programmed. What should I do?

Return to idle mode and start programming again, since you can not return to programming mode (the radio has no way to tell what stage is the specific programming). Therefore, you can:

hold the PTT button. The radio programming will return to idle mode

turn off the radio and select the programming mode again (see the instructions at the beginning of this section)

2. I'm trying to program a frequency (or code) but the radio will not let me do it. Was returned to the beginning and again at "0."

The radio will not let you set a value that is between the frequencies and codes available. For example, if you try to program the code 128, the radio will not accept it as the maximum value is 122. The same applies to the frequencies. See Tables of frequencies and codes to ensure you are scheduling a valid number.

3. I'm trying to select the mode the radio programming but do not let me.

The radio can be blocked with the CPS not to allow programming from the front panel. Turn it on again using the CPS.

4. I was wrong and I programmed a wrong value. How I can delete or reschedule?

If you fail to set a value, you have two options:

a) return to the beginning (you will hear surround sound) each time it reaches the maximum value (9) or minimum (0). Follow up (briefly pressing SB1) or decreasing (SB2 briefly pressing) until the desired value or

b) turn the radio off and start again.

5. I just wanted to set the value. How do I exit programming mode?

If you are in programming mode, you can quit holding the PTT button twice.

If you are already in Programming Mode "off", hold down the PTT button once.

6. I finished setting up the features on this channel and want to schedule another channel.

Select the new channel to be programmed with the channel selection knob. The radio is in Programming Mode "inactive." To save the changes, make sure that you are in Programming Mode "inactive" before changing the channel, otherwise you will lose the changes you have made.


Frequency Programming Example

Assuming the current frequency value is set to channel 1, with the default UHF 02 (equivalent to 446.01875 MHz) and that you wish to change the frequency number = 13 (which corresponds to 446.05625 MHz), follow these instructions:

Select programming mode

Briefly press the PTT button to select the frequency mode. The radio will indicate the current value, "0" (orange flash)

Press the SB1 button once to increase the first digit to "1."

Briefly press the PTT button once to continue and set the second digit of the frequency. The radio will indicate the current value, it would be "2" (two red flashes.)

Press the SB1 button once to increase the value of the digit "3."

Hold the PTT button. The LED displays a green light indicating "inactive" status.

Hold the PTT button to exit programming mode or turn off the radio.

Programming Example code

Assuming that the value of the current code is the factory default, 001, and that you wish to switch to Code CTCSS / DPL = 103, follow these instructions:

Select programming mode

Briefly press the PTT button three times (Select the programming mode selection CTCSS / DPL). The radio LED will blink orange to indicate that the current value is 0

Press the SB1 button once (to change the first digit to 1). The LED will blink red. Briefly press the PTT button (to continue and set the second digit). The LED will blink orange to indicate that the current value is 0.

Briefly press the PTT button and proceed to set the third digit. The LED will blink red to indicate that the current value is 1.

Press the SB1 button to change the third digit to 2. Press the SB1 button again to change the "third digit" 3. The radio will indicate the value chosen.

Hold the PTT button to save your changes and return to idle mode programming.

After selecting the programming mode idle, the LED will start flashing green.

Hold the PTT button to exit programming mode.

Programming Example Auto Search

The automatic search is the latest programming mode can be enabled or disabled "for a particular channel. To activate the automatic search:

1. Select the programming mode and select the desired channel (please see the image "Selecting programming mode on page 38).

Edit search list

Search Schedules can be edited using the CPS (see CPS (programming software) "on page 42).

RADIO CLONING You can copy the profiles of the radio series Radio XTNi a source to a Radio station in one of the following ways: 1. A multi-charger (optional) 2. Two individual shippers and cloning cable radio radio (optional) 3. CPS Multiple Cloning Charger (MUC) To clone radios using a MUC, there must be at least two radios: a Source radio (radio that is to be cloned or copied) and a radio station (radio whose profile will be modified so that it is equal to the radius of origin).
